description: Purpose of the project is the investigation of stochastic processes and phenomena in various non-homogeneous and anisotropic media actual in the condensed matter physics and biological systems. The research activities are outlined in the following directions:
• Stochastic transport in the ion channels of biological cell membranes. It is intended to develop on the basis of the theory of Brownian motion such physical models which take into account the characteristics of real ion channels such as discreteness of structure, large viscosity of environment, memory effects, and global electrochemical potential.
• Transport processes in the artificial microporous membranes by using Lorentz and Ehrenfest gases as the model systems.
• Dynamics of order parameters and stochastic resonance in the systems with first and second order phase transitions, including ferroelectric materials.
• Effects of spatial anisotropy in the transport of charged Brownian particles induced by external magnetic and electric fields. There are possible applications in the plasma physics, superionic conductors, ferroelectromagnetic nanostructures etc.
• Active (i.e. with negative dissipation) Brownian motion in periodic potentials. Modelling the potentials with several barriers per period by memory friction keeping in view the description of proton transport in the systems with the hydrogen bonds as a possible application.
• Diffusion and current of particles in periodic potentials of complicated structure, including multidimensional potentials and potentials with final spatial extension. Elucidating general conditions for the suppression of diffusion by an external field in periodic structures.
