The risk for coronary heart disease is 2-4 times greater among patients of type II diabetes mellitus (DM2). The aim of the study is to estimate the prevalence of risk factors of atherosclerosis in DM2 patients without cardiovascular risk factors and in those survived myocardial infarction (MI). The results will be compared with corresponding non-diabetic comparison groups. Special interest is to find out associations between lipid profile and disorders of glucose metabolism, activity of plasma factors remodelling of lipoproteins in circulation (CETP, PLTP), apolipoprotein E polymorphism, adiposity and life-style risk factors. The role of thrombogenetic factors (Lp(a), fibrinogen, account of platelets, haematocrit) in genesis of heart attacks among DM2 patients will be also studied. Genealogical study to estimate familial aggregation of DM2 and MI will be carried out. |
