The goal of the project is to define the factors influencing the development of the Estonian linguistic environment, to estimate the influence of social integration to the Estonian linguistic environment and to plan actions in the areas of language politics and planning, teaching and teaching methodics that support positive developments of the linguistic environment. To reach the goals, a linguistic database will be created and extended that consists of the corpus of oral and written Estonian interlanguage. The texts belonging to these corpora will be connected to the database of rich sociolinguistic information about the linguistic context of the communication act. Based on this database, the analysis of the basic contact-linguistic principles of the evolution of Russian-based Estonian interlanguage will be provided with the information about the changes in the linguistic behaviour, knowledge and regional identity of the Russian-speaking population in various regions of Estonia. The project will also provide an overview of the problems of teaching Estonian as a second language and recommendations of how to teach Estonian more effectively. On the basis of these analyses, the model of the development of the Estonian linguistic environment will be provided, with an accompanying set of recommendations for language planning and policy in Estonia. |
